Dr. M.D. Birmingham is best known for his work with the highly acclaimed Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Inc., which brings enrichment opportunities to hundreds of young women in grades 6-12. Dr
Birmingham has also been active in education for over thirty years. He was the first African American Dean of Students at Memphis State University, and later served as the first African American Dean of Students at Dillard University in New Orleans. He has also worked with many other non-profit organizations, including the Louisiana Health Education Center, where he was the Director of Community Services, and the Louisiana Health Care Foundation, where he was Vice President of Community Services.
His work with these organizations has enabled him to bring quality health care to thousands of families in the Greater New Orleans area. Dr. Birmingham has served on many boards over the years including The Mount Carmel Health System Foundation, The Hospital Corporation of America, and The Women's Council Incorporated in New Orleans.
